Book Review #1: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Leigh Bardugo has written many books, one being the Shadow and Bone series which was made into an adaptation on Netflix. However, the book I will always come back to is the Six of Crows series that is set five years after the final events of Shadow and Bone. There are multiple reasons as to why this series is amazing, but I'll focus on the first book for now. The first thing that makes this book amazing is the ties from the title to the content within the novel. Six obviously refers to the six main characters featured in the book, though some appear more often than others. The crows are what they call their small group within the gang they all find themselves in or otherwise connected to. What makes this novel so compelling, and page-turning is the characters. They each have their own personalities that coincide and clash against the other characters within the story. Each of the main characters are also easy to relate to, one has adhd, another is illiterate, but the part I find so important is that they each have flaws. They aren't the perfect heroes' that a lot of other books have.

While the characters are incredibly important, and in my opinion make up the majority of the story, the setting is also what makes this book so good. In the book they are from the made-up place of Ketterdam, which is based off of the city of London. I found this setting to be a perfect place considering the characters are a part of a gang. However, the setting does end up changing to another fictional place named Fjerda, which is based off of Germany.

    Overall book rating: 10/10
