Book Review #10: Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson and The Olympians is an amazing series written by and amazing author. It has everything going for it, characters, plot, setting, themes. The first book was by far one of the best first books of any series I've ever read. A lot of book series have the issues that everything is slow going, something happens right at the end that you just have to read the next book to find out what happens. The Lightning Thief doesn't do that. Instead, it finishes the main story so the reader can feel satisfied, however it's so well-written that there are openings for the second book, there is a want to see these characters in another story.

The hardest thing for an author to do is write realistic characters that people can still fall in love with. Riordan does just that with not only the main character, but the dynamic character and the static character as well. He also manages to make the reader fall in love with the background characters, which is a difficult task considering they only make it onto a few pages. The reason why I found The Lightning Thief to be so good is because these character that you meet for the first time are incredible from the first page they appear.

Some themes: Hidden qualities, Loyalty, Friendships, Cleverness.

    Overall book rating: 10/10
